About the Role

Who are we looking for?

We are searching for a motivated team player who is looking for a technically challenging career without the physical constraints of a traditional desk job. In this role, you will travel to a variety of job sites and help execute construction inspection for the development of new roads, municipal infrastructure, parks, trails, and other community projects.

What are the responsibilities and roles of this position?

The Construction Inspector is responsible for daily inspection efforts on complex and diverse projects including roadways, bridges, utilities, grading, concrete construction, and drainage projects. Duties include inspection of work quality, materials, and workmanship. The Construction Inspector ensures plans are approved according to specifications and contract documents. This individual must be organized to maintain records and prepare project inspection reports. This individual will also communicate their findings and the status of projects to contractors. Daily responsibilities include:

Communicate and coordinate with contractors’ staff daily. Perform field testing of concrete, soils, aggregates, asphalt, and/or other construction materials.
Maintain daily logs of test results and inspections and write daily reports. Recognize basic construction or engineering problems. Read and interpret complex plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
Be willing to work a shift schedule and/or flexible schedule as required to support the workload, as well as in inclement weather.
Apply standard testing techniques and procedures for the verification of material, including field testing of concrete, soils, aggregates, asphalt, and other construction materials.
Must physically be able to lift 25lbs. Performs standard mathematical calculations, including trigonometry. Operate a pickup truck or similar utility vehicle.

Requirements

What are the required qualifications for this role?


  • Valid driver’s License required

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Experience working on Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) projects is a plus

  • Hold (or able to timely obtain) all six INDOT Certified Technician Program certifications:

    • Bridge Construction and Deck Repair, Construction Earthworks, Concrete Paving, Construction Procedures 1, Hot Mix Asphalt, Construction Procedures 2
